Assembly has been taken hostage (Gazeta Express)
In an editorial for Gazeta Express, former MP from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and journalist, Berat Buzhala, claims not to be speaking for all the people in Kosovo but a certain number of them do believe that the situation in Kosovo is critical. The government is indeed responsible for the current situation, observes Buzhala, but at the same time the opposition is responsible why this situation is not resolving. “It is precisely this opposition, the egg opposition, that made this government look serious,” he writes. The road to European Union integration is long and difficult and the steps that the government of Kosovo is taking are truly small but are nevertheless steps forward but with the opposition’s approach, these steps would stall entirely or, even worse, backtracked. The ruling coalition, suggests Buzhala, would have to continue efforts to unblock the situation, even by requesting the assistance of foreign embassies in Pristina. At the same time, people should be convinced that the Assembly has been taken hostage by certain desperate individuals and these should be discredited. If this fails, early elections are a viable possibility, concludes Buzhala.
