Do not hide behind internationals (Zeri)
The paper’s regular columnist Milaim Shefkiu says that Kosovo politicians have become used to mask their failures with the justification that they are acting on the instructions of the international community. The most recent example of this is the decision not to allow entry into Kosovo of persons in possession of ID cards issued by Serb parallel structures. Shefkiu writes that not long after the decision was announced by the Kosovo minister without portfolio Edita Tahiri, it got revoked upon, as the government of Kosovo said, the recommendation of the European Union and the United States Embassy. It is not certain whether it was the international community or the threats from local Serbs in the north that they would block the border crossing point in Jarinje that made the government of Kosovo cancel its decision, adds Shefkiu, but this is only one of the cases when the Kosovo institutions gave in to the pressure from Serbia and used the international community as a justification. Shefkiu, therefore, urges the government of Kosovo not to take decisions it is unable to implement because it risks looking like a “clown”.
