PDK-LDK Government: Beginning or end of Kosovo’s sinking (Gazeta Blic)
Publicist Beqe Cufaj writes in an opinion piece that while some may find the coalition between the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) unnatural, the fact of the matter is that PDK and LDK are the two largest parties and in the present circumstances, it was the only possibility to put Kosovo back on track. However, everyone drew lessons from the six-month institutional crisis with the first and foremost being the PDK and its leader, Hashim Thaci, whose arrogance taught them that they cannot do everything on their own and realized that in a democracy, there need to be agreements and rules to establish institutions. One way or another, everyone in PDK lost a little bit, adds Cufaj, but there were only two winners: Kadri Veseli and Hashim Thaci. In his new post as Assembly Speaker, Veseli will have the possibility to, once and for all, remove all prejudices against him, while Thaci managed to show to his opponents, to the national and international public opinion, that he can stoop to a less senior post, albeit for a year until he can put a claim on the post of the Kosovo president. “Thaci and Mustafa have surrendered to one another in a strange way and, no doubt, this will either mark the beginning of a long coexistence or the beginning of an inglorious end for both”, writes Cufaj. At the same time, the opposition parties have an opportunity to come together and win over the undecided voters or the desperate ones that don’t vote at all.
