Vucic to Tanin: Kosovo army new Pristina’s provocative measure (Serbian media)

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told UNMIK Head Zahir Tanin that Serbia would do its utmost to preserve peace and stability, but the situation would significantly deteriorate when Pristina tomorrow, contrary to the international law, makes a decision on establishing the army. UNMIK Head said he shares concerns for the situation in Kosovo. Vucic added intention of Pristina to establish so-called Kosovo army represents a new, provocative and unilateral measure, following the introduction of taxes on goods from Serbia, and is causing grave concerns of Serbia for the future of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. Vucic and Tanin, who is also the Special Representative of UN Secretary General discussed today about current political and security situation in Kosovo. Serbian President emphasized that KFOR, in accordance with provisions of the UN SC Resolution 1244, has the mandate to disarm illegal armed forces of Kosovo Albanians. Vucic also announced consultations with Serbia’s friend in the Security Council on actions it could undertake as a reaction on forming the so-called Kosovo army. Tanin underlined that UN Secretary General letter from April 2014 confirms that “UN SC Resolution 1244 remains legal framework of the international security presence in Kosovo.” Tanin said it is also the stance of the current Secretary General Antonio Guterres. Resolution 1244 remains a valid framework for international presence in Kosovo, as well as there cannot be change in KFOR’s mandate without consent from the UN SC. He also recalled his recent statement that introduction of taxes on goods from central Serbia is a clear violation of CEFTA, and that this measure should be revoked, Serbian President Press Service said in a statement.
