Ponos: Vucic to submit report on Kosovo, opposition to decide on discussion in Parliament after it (Danas, TV N1, KoSSev)
Former Serbian Army Chief-of-Staff and now deputy leader of the opposition Peoples’ Party Zdravko Ponos said the opposition would be ready to consider the proposal of the Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to hold discussion on Kosovo and Metohija in the Parliament, if Vucic would beforehand submit a report on what he has been doing so far in regard to Kosovo and present a platform on the forthcoming negotiations with Kosovo Albanians, Danas daily reported.
“Then we would see if Vucic’s call for a debate on Kosovo and Metohija in the Parliament is a circus, a game-play or something meaningful. Let’s be serious. The opposition demanded talks about Kosovo in the Parliament as this is a national issue. Vucic lead negotiations about Kosovo so far as it was his family property. Let him send us something that would convince us it is serious this time,” Ponos told TV N1.
Asked to comment if forming of the Kosovo army represents a military challenge to Serbia, Ponos responded “not so obvious, but that any change impacting security constellation is something that Serbia’s security structures must pay appropriate attention on. They need to calculate, and you always need to have forces ready to do their job,” he said.
He also noted it is important for the Army of Serbia “to have good, productive relations and dynamic communication” with KFOR since at this moment they are guaranteeing security to the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija”.
“Still, you should never entrust your destiny into anyone’s hands, that is why you always need to have a plan B. What if things do not work? That is why, the Serbian Army must be always ready to respond to challenges that at this moment are not obvious (…),” Ponos added.
