Residents of Strpce blocked the road and prevented the continuation of works on mini hydro power plant near Obereke (Gracanicaonline.info)

Portal Gracanicaonline.info learns that residents of Strpce prevented this morning the excavator from the company Matkos group from Pristina to reach the site of Obereke, above Strpce, where the construction of a mini hydro power plant began.

Around 50 people spontaneously gathered when early this morning the cargo truck of the company Matkos Group was spotted while transporting the excavator to the place where the construction of a mini hydroelectric power plant is planned.

Serbs from Strpce, but also Albanians from neighbouring villages are peacefully protesting for several months, blocking works on the construction of a mini hydro plant at the mouth of the mountain streams of Kaludjerka and Bolovanjka rivers. The local population estimates that the construction of a mini hydroelectric power plant would jeopardize their existence, as they would thus be left without water, which they say is necessary for the irrigation of agricultural parcels and raspberries.

The latest peaceful protests over the construction of mini hydro power plant were held in January this year, after which the works were temporarily suspended. This was another attempt by the Pristina company, after a short break, to continue the construction works.

The peaceful protests of the local people were supervised by the Kosovo police, which, as Gracanicaonline.info learns, did not react.
