Serbian FM Dacic, Ambassador Scott pleased with the improved Serbia-US ties (Beta, Serbian media)
Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic met with U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Kyle Scott to discuss bilateral relations and international affairs.
Dacic and Scott said they were pleased with improved overall bilateral ties, reflected in the recent meeting of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in New York.
Scott reiterated that Washington supported Belgrade’s EU integration and encouraged the resumption of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue soon, according to a release from the Serbian Foreign Ministry.
Professor at the Belgrade Faculty of Political Sciences Dragan Djukanovic said that the Pompeo-Vucic meeting, US once again demonstrated its great interest in seeing Belgrade and Pristina reach a settlement.
Djukanovic told Belgrade based news agency Beta that Washington’s interest in such an agreement was reflected in a readout, published by the State Department, saying that Pompeo “encouraged Serbia to focus on this strategic goal (integration in the European Union) by accelerating domestic reforms and resuming negotiations with Kosovo on a comprehensive normalization agreement, centered on mutual recognition.”
He recalled that late last year, US set the resumption of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue as its strategic goal in the Western Balkans.
Djukanovic believes that the dialogue will not resume for another two to three months after the snap vote in Kosovo, which should be held in the autumn.
