UN: Serbia regional leader in peacekeeping operations (Vesti online)
During the meeting with Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic, Head of the UN office in Belgrade, Peter Due, said that Serbia has become the regional leader in the active participation of the military in peacekeeping operations.
In the statement of the Ministry of Defence was said that the Minister Gašić and Head of the UN Office in Belgrade, spoke about the participation of the Serbian Army in multinational operations and the forthcoming regional meeting of countries whose forces are already in UN operations.
Due thanked Gašić for a large contribution to peacekeeping operations, with more than 200 members of the Serbian military. He also thanked for the recent deployment of peacekeepers in the Central African Republic, as well as the decision on forthcoming engagement of peacekeepers in Mali.
Gasic said that the cooperation between the Ministry of Defence and the UN is very important for continuation of the process of reforms and progress of Serbia in the European integration process.
He stressed the importance of the presence of UNMIK and KFOR in Kosovo, stressing that the international forces are the main guarantor of security.
Gašić also thanked for the help and quick involvement of the UN in solving problems which occurred as a result of floods in Serbia, with the hope that this cooperation will continue.
