Greater Albania nightmare of Europe and mankind (Tanjug)
BELGRADE - Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic wrote on Twitter that the project of Greater Albania is not only Serbia's nightmare, but also the nightmare of Europe and all mankind, stressing that it must be prevented.
"People who say that Greater Albania is our nightmare are absolutely right. But this is not only our nightmare, it is also the nightmare of Europe and all mankind, and we will do all in our power to prevent it. I hope that normal Albanians will understand this message," Vucic wrote on Twitter.
This was Vucic's reply to Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama who wrote on Twitter that Greater Albania is Serbia's nightmare, and not Albania's project.
The European championship qualifier match between Serbia and Albania in Belgrade on October 14 was abandoned after a brawl that followed the appearance of a drone with a flag depicting the so called Greater Albania, a nationalist project that would include parts of Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Greece.
Not a single official in Pristina and Tirana condemned this provocation. On the contrary, Albanian footballers were welcomed as heroes; Albanians in the region celebrated the incident as a national victory and the mayor of Tirana immediately awarded them the city's top honor.
Serbian officials stated that this is a serious political provocation and an attempt to cause unrest in Serbia and instability in the region.
On the occasion, Serbia delivered a demarche to the Albanian ambassador in Belgrade asking from Tirana to condemn the incident and to take strong measures against perpetrators and others responsible for the incident.
The Albanian prime minister is due to visit Belgrade on October 22, but following the political provocations at the football match, his visit has been brought into question.
