Udovicic: I believe that IOC will review its decision on Kosovo (Politika)
Serbian Minister for Sport and Youth Vanja Udovicic yesterday voiced hope that International Olympic Committee (IOC) will review once more its decision to grant a provisional membership in the IOC to Kosovo and open the path for the unilaterally declared state to participate at Olympic Games in Rio 2016.
He particularly stressed that granting membership to a so called state, which is not a member state of the United Nations, which is one of the essential conditions for IOC membership, would present huge and dangerous precedent which was not seen so far at the international sports scene.
Udovicic is convinced that, no matter on the standpoint of the IOC’s Executive Committee, the most prestigious world organization won’t bring decision which would bring into question one of the fundamental principles of Olympic games – equality of all participants, which could seriously jeopardize the sport system at the international level.
IOC Executive Committee yesterday granted a provisional membership to Kosovo and proposed that permanent membership is granted to Kosovo at the IOC General Assembly which will be held in December in Monaco.
