Nikolic: Giving up Kosovo should not be a condition for EU membership (Vecernje Novosti)

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic said that giving up Kosovo and Metohija must not be a condition for Serbia's entry into the European Union. "Serbia should be in the EU, and we should enter the Union proudly. Giving up Kosovo and Metohija should not be a condition for entry. This matters to my life and cannot be changed. The EU is aware of that position," Nikolic told the talk show Cirilica on TV Happy.

Nikolic said that the new European Commission is coming up with sharper and clearer demands. He stated, "Now they’re saying what the German Parliament said two years ago – that in order to become a member of the EU, Serbia needs to sign an agreement on good neighbourly relations with Kosovo.”

"If Pristina will not sign the agreement, when we will become a member of the EU? And they will not sign it, because we do not recognize the independence of Kosovo and Metohija," Nikolic said, adding that Pristina and Belgrade are running in circles.
