Miscevic: We will work on both, the process of normalization and Chapters 23 and 24 (Blic)

Serbia is aware that the normalization of relations with Pristina is a key political issue and an important moment that will define when the opening of the first Chapters in the negotiations with the EU will happen, said the head of the negotiating team, Tanja Miscevic. "The same importance have two Chapters related to the Rule of law, 23 and 24. We work parallel on both, in order to have credible basis for the opening of the first chapters till the end of the year", said Miscevic for television N1.

According to her, opening the first chapter is important not because you should have a certain number of open chapters. It is because work on the implementation of envisioned obligations would be more controlled and more under the attention and scrutiny of the European Commission.

In regards to the statement of Deputy PM Ivica Dacic that negotiations could be finished until 2018, and that Serbia could become an EU member by 2020, Miscevic said that from the very beginning that was the basic model and strategy. She added that the first year when technically is possible for Serbia to become a member, after the conclusion of the negotiations, is 2020.
