Serbian and Albanian journalist soon to sign agreement on cooperation (KIM Radio)
Association of Journalists of Kosovo and Metohija that gathers Serb journalists and Association of Professional Journalists of Kosovo that gathers Albanian journalists have agreed to sign a memorandum on cooperation this month, aiming at improving journalists’ status.
The chairperson of the Association of Journalists of Kosovo and Metohija Budimir Nicic said that one of the first steps will have to do with launching an initiative for protection of journalists by the law, that is, that attacks on journalists are considered by the law as attacks on individuals who are performing duties of public importance.
Nicic went on to say that agreement, which he described as the only one that could be signed between Serbs and Albanians without mediators, would aim at improving mutual cooperation, and added that the plan is to jointly apply for projects funded by international donors.
He further said that there were six attacks on Serbian and 14 attacks on Albanian journalists this year, whereas not a single attacker was identified or brought to justice, what sends a message to attackers that they can continue with attacks and pressure on journalists.
