Interim centre in Sid receives aid from EULEX (Tanjug)
Axel Jaenicke, chief of the EULEX mission's regional office in Belgrade, handed over on Tuesday on behalf of the EULEX mission humanitarian aid to the refugee interim centre in Sid, north-western Serbia.
Five trucks with trailers delivered one big tent, two generators, 170 beds, mattresses, sleeping bags, portable shower cabins, toilets and cooking and heating equipment.
Jaenicke told reporters that EULEX has shipped the aid because the centre has to be ready to receive refugees during the winter. We wished to offer help in this situation. We all know what has already been done by the Serbian government and people, and that is commendable, he said.
Jaenicke noted that the EULEX Mission helped Serbia in 2014 when, at the time of catastrophic floods, it provided a helicopter for saving people.
Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Oscar Benedict thanked EULEX for the donation, and underlined that on Monday Serbia launched a European mechanism for emergency response and called for help.
Now all the member countries are considering how to help Serbia. The aid is arriving, and we hope that a comprehensive solution for refugee crisis will be found at the upcoming EU summit, Benedict said.
