Former UNMIK Heads: Kosovo in UNESCO because of peace between Serbia and Kosovo (Kossev)

Before the session of the General Conference of UNESCO, in which will be decided about  the membership of Kosovo in this organization, four former heads of UNMIK - Bernard Kouchner, Michael Steiner, Soren Jessen-Petersen and Joachim Ruecker, sent an explicit letter of support for Kosovo's membership in UNESCO. Describing themselves as "independent individuals" who know the situation, they say that UNESCO "cannot afford to refuse giving support to Kosovo and its people."

“UNESCO can contribute to further normalization of relations and a lasting peace between Kosovo and Serbia by welcoming Kosovo and create a room for a dialogue among former foes in the field of cross border cooperation to protect climate, invest in science and education and preserve the heritage,” concluded Kouchner, Steiner, Petersen and Riker.
