Serbia is preparing to deploy its customs officers at the boundary line with Kosovo and already at the beginning of March this year. This will be done due to the smuggling in the North.
A Serbian confidential source told Tesheshi.com that the Government of Serbia made the decision after facing a lot of non-compliance with the procedures and smuggling carried out in the North, and it affects Serbian producers, whose products, through illegal routes, are returning back to Serbia.
A source close to Serbian customs officials explained that Serbian customs officers, who after declaration of independence in 2008 worked as customs officers for UNMIK, by order of the Government of Serbia, withdrew from the boundary lines, returned uniforms of the UNMIK Customs and crossed under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Finance of Serbia.
KoSSev source explains that the Serbian customs officers first must complete training that will last two months, after which they will be placed on the boundary lines with Kosovo.
According to the source, they will be placed at Merdare, Konculj - The White hill, Jarinje and Brnjak.
