How dialogue could influence Vucic’s rating? (Danas)
Aleksandar Vucic’s call for internal dialogue on Kosovo should not hamper his rating or rating of his political party, Danas daily reports today.
However, if citizens have even the slightest feelings that the dialogue goes in direction to recognize Kosovo it would negatively affect his popularity, Danas interlocutor pointed out.
Factor plus Agency Director, Vladimir Pejic, stated to Danas it is difficult to tell how the dialogue would influence Vucic’s and Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) ratings, but the risk is there.
By initiating the dialogue on Kosovo, Vucic is risking his current rating. It should wait and see what direction the dialogue would take. In fact, it is a good proposal, because people opt more for talks than for war. However, if citizens feel even the slightest inclination towards the recognition of Kosovo, it would definitely have no positive effect on Vucic’s rating.
Meanwhile, CESID Programme Director, Djordje Vukovic, said dialogue on Kosovo would not significantly impact SNS constituencies.
According to him, Vucic’s call for dialogue is just one more phase in which citizens of Serbia and SNS constituencies should realize the reality about Kosovo. And the reality is that institutions of Serbia do not function there.
Vukovic added that another issue, when it comes to the dialogue on Kosovo, could worry SNS members as “right-wing” oriented parties could benefit from the dialogue, more respectively Serbian Radical Party (SRS), Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) and Dveri Movement.
“We saw what happens with those who dare to criticise Vucic on any matter, including Kosovo too,” Vukovic concluded.
