Lack of functioning judicial system main reason for corruption (Kontakt plus radio)

The lack of a functioning judicial system is the main reason for corruption in the north, along with the non-existence of a law protecting whistle-blowers, so there is neither physical nor legal protection of those who would warn on corruption, concluded participants at the discussion organized in EU Info Centre in Mitrovica North, Kontakt plus radio reported.

Participants, among them representatives of the Advocacy Centre for Democratic Culture (ACDC), Dusan Radakovic and Srdjan Simonovic discussed about issues and causes of corruption, as well as perception of transparency within the community, aiming to raise awareness at the local level, Kontakt plus radio further reported. Speaking about the perception of transparency within the community, Simonovic said citizens are aware corruption represents a major problem, but simply there is neither physical nor legal protection of those who would report corruption. According to him, fight against corruption must be systematic and not individual. ACDC is engaged in a project, “Monitoring municipal transparency” and in March 2018 they are expected to publish a transparency index of the northern Kosovo municipalities, Kontakt plus radio reported.
