Zahiti: Calm situation in Mitrovica (indeksonline)
The situation in Mitrovica appears to be calm today, after yesterday’s clashes between the protesters and the police. KFOR and police forces have moved at “The park of peace.”
Kosovo Police Information Official for Mitrovica region, Avni Zahiti, said for Indeksonline that security forces are ready to react to any situation, however he added that situation is currently calm. “Police and KFOR have not noticed any indications that would disturb peace, however they are in the state of emergency. Although citizens are seen moving in that part, the situation is calm. The number of the injured police officers yesterday is 13 and 13 individuals were arrested. Ten of them are being held by the prosecution for judicial procedures, while three are released. Six vehicles were burned, from which two are civilian,” said Zahiti.
Kosovo Police and EULEX have used tear gas to disperse the crowd of protesters who went to the south of Mitrovica to oppose restoring of the barricade at the central bridge of River Ibër/Ibar, by municipal authorities of Mitrovica North, in presence of the officials of Serbian Government.
