Tahiri meets new EU Director for Balkans (RTKlive)
Kosovo’s Minister for Dialogue, Edita Tahiri, met in Brussels with the new EU Director for Western Europe, Western Balkans and Turkey, from the EU’s Foreign Service, Angelina Eichhrost, successor of Fernando Gentilini.
The intention of the meeting was assessment of the floe and results of the Brussels dialogue during the last period. They both agreed that significant achievements have been made, and that EU gave a major contribution by mediating the discussions between Pristina and Belgrade.
Being that no agreement was reached between the two parties at Rambouillet Conference or during the discussions in Vienna, they said that this dialogue has marked historic results, because the signed agreements have had impact on normalization of the relations and on getting closer with the agendas for EU integration.
Minister Tahiri said that Kosovo was a constructive party during this dialogue, helping peace and stability of the region and requested from the EU to sign the Stabilization Association Agreement with Kosovo as soon as possible. She added that this would have been the first reached agreement between Kosovo and the European Union. She added that signing of the SAA during October would be a motivation for further dialogue and EU reforms in Kosovo. She also requested for the decision on visa liberalization to be made during this year in order for Kosovo people to be able to travel to the EU countries without visas next year.
Minister Tahiri also spoke about the challenges in the process of the implementation of the agreements and the paradoxes that follow this process, saying that normalization of the relations with Serbia requires from the latter to interrupt interferences in Kosovo, dissolving of the remaining parallel structures in accordance with the Brussels Agreement.
