300 Kosovars at conflict zones, 50 killed (RTKLive)
The Ambassador of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Jean Claude Schlumberger said that participation of Kosovo citizens in ISIS is a signal that should be stopped quickly.
He said societies throughout the world are facing extremism and radicalism, therefore bridges should be built to fight these challenges among communities, institutions and states of the region.
During the discussion on violent extremism and radicalization which leads toward terrorism, the challenges and potential role of Municipal Council for Security in Communities, organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the mayors of municipalities, he said that fighting of extremism requires a united approach of police, NGOs, media and families. All these play a significant role in preventing this occurrence,” he said.
Luan Kekaj from the Directorate against Terrorism said prevention and fighting of extremism cannot be reached only through a police approach but with an inter-institutional one. “Despite the fact that Kosovo citizens resisted this phenomenon, a number of young people joined the war in Iraq. According to Kosovo Police data, the number of Kosovars who traveled to the conflict zones is 300, which 300 are reported killed,” he said.
