Council of Europe to discuss situation in Kosovo today (Koha)
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe today will discuss and vote the draft resolution titled "The situation in Kosovo and the role of the Council of Europe". This draft-resolution was initially voted in the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy.
Kosovo media report that three articles of the resolution included after Serbia's proposal on 9 December, are in contradiction with the reality in Kosovo. The most contested one is paragraph eight of the resolution which encourages the increase of UNMIK’s role in Kosovo. This point requires that relations with Europol and Interpol to go through UNMIK, not the Kosovo government.
Kosovo is being represented by the Assembly Deputy Speakers Xhavit Haliti and Aida Derguti, and Slobodan Petrovic from the Serbian List. The delegation of Kosovo has strongly lobbied through other delegations to submit amendments which aim to abolish Serbia’s amendments. However, Kosovo amendments did not pass the Parliamentary Assembly and Kosovo delegation was not allowed to speak, on the grounds that rapporteur Augustin Conde was not present.
