Thaci: Dialogue with Serbia should become more dynamic (Gazeta Express)
The President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, recalled the first agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, signed three years ago between the former Prime Minister of Serbia, Ivica Dacic and the then Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci.
“Three years ago we started a new chapter of communication and cooperation in the region. After a century of conflict, we reached the first peaceful agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, which aims normalization of the relations and finally reconciliation between the two populations and states, under the leadership of the EU and US support,” wrote Thaci on his Facebook page.
Even though our eyes are turned towards the better future for the population and state, we will never forget the sacrifice we went through. In order to assure that our future will not be threatened by the past, normalization and reconciliation are required to be built onto the justice for all the victims and the fate of the missing should be enlightened.”
The most important thing is that we are in the right path to build a better future for our children, future generations, that we dreamed of.
It is time for the dialogue to become more dynamic, to increase efficiency on implementation and pass from the process of the normalization of relations to the reconciliation between countries and populations.
It is said however that implementation of the agreement has stagnated at many points. Stagnations on functionalizing courts in the north of Kosovo and establishment of the Association for Serb-majority municipalities, foreseen to enjoy a wide degree of autonomy, are especially mentioned.
This association has also become the reason for high tensions between the government and the opposition in Kosovo.
Opposition claims that this mechanism would lead towards division of Kosovo," Thaci wrote.
