Serwer: Belgrade’s right to look after Serbs in Kosovo is legitimate (Gazeta Blic)

The U.S. expert on Balkans, Daniel Serwer, said that the Balkan region is unsteady and the unsteadiest parts of the region, are FYROM and Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to him, Serbia’s concern for Serbs in Kosovo is legitimate.

“The EU as EU, will not request Serbia's recognition of Kosovo because this is not a competency of the European Commission. But there are 23 member countries that have recognized Kosovo and I believe that many of them will insist on Kosovo’s membership at the United Nations,” Serwer said.

“Serbia’s concern for well-being of Serbs in Kosovo is legitimate. It is important for Serbs to remain in Kosovo, to be treated well and that churches and monasteries are well protected, but the issue of the political status of Kosovo is a done deal,” Serwer said.
