Serbia between two Germanies and one Kosovo (Politika)
Situation with regard to negotiation platform for Chapter 35, which is unacceptable for Serbia, should be clearer following today’s meeting between prime ministers of Serbia and Kosovo, Vucic and Mustafa, with Mogherini.
The emergency situation in the state leadership with regard to negotiation platform of the European Union for Chapter 35 is not calming down. In Brussels say that it is still too early to say what will the document contain in its final version, whereas analysts say that most of what has been mentioned as the new requests coming from the West is something that Belgrade new about, long time ago. Situation with regard to chapter that refers to Kosovo is expected to be clearer following today’s meeting in Brussels between Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Isa Mustafa with the EU High Representative Federica Mogherini.
Document which was described by the Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic as “a creepy, awful paper” contains and request for setting a border between Serbia and Kosovo, handing over of the power-plant ‘Gazivode’ to Pristina and University in Mitrovica North becoming part of the Kosovo educational system. It also requests abolition of Serbian provisional institutions, what would leave 28.000 people jobless.
Solution for relations between Serbia and Kosovo in the platform, which is drafted by the European Commission, follows the model of two Germanies which were both UN member states, without their mutual recognition. Model of two Germanies was mentioned eight years ago. According to most of experts, and then authorities in Belgrade, this proposal was not implementable for Kosovo. The author of this idea was Wolfgang Ischinger, one of three international mediators in previous talks about Kosovo.
