Today the fake state of Kosovo marks eight years since the unilateral declaration of independence. In all reports of relevant international organizations Kosovo is mentioned as a nest of corruption and crime, a place where even basic human rights are not respected.

Serbs are mostly worried about the escalation of violence because they have been the main targets throughout the last eight years, especially in returnee settlements. “Every massive gathering of Albanians is causing fear among Serbs, however we hope that Kosovo Police will be able to control the protests. Serbs are always targeted by Albanians. We are expecting a lot from KFOR and EULEX,. We have brought to their attention the need for prevention of potential violence,” stated Slavko Simic, the leader of the Serbian List. “The creation of the Community of Serb-majority municipalities, to which opposition is opposed, is only a temporary excuse against the creation of the special war crime court for crimes committed by the Kosovo Liberation Army’, said Simic.

Political analyst from Pristina Fatmir Sheholli, says that Kosovo has not managed to become a member of any important international organization since the declaration of independence, such as UNESCO or the OSCE, ‘what makes it difficult for Kosovo to become a state in the true sense, which causes revolt among the majority Albanian population’. He added that Kosovo was faced with huge challenges after 1999, and that without UNMIK, EULEX, KFOR and other international organizations and states that recognized the independence it would not have reached its current state.
