Creation of a new municipality is long and difficult process (RTK2)
In last couple days the idea about creation of a new Serb-majority municipality in Kosovo has been actualized again. However, considering that there are 19 pending requests in the Ministry of Local Government Administration it is questionable how realistic is the creation of a new municipality at this moment.
In order for new municipality to be created it is necessary that Ministry forwards a proposal to the government, which following its adoption forwards the proposal to the parliament where 61 votes are needed for its adoption. Before such motion the Ministry drafts a feasibility study aimed at assessing whether all criteria are fulfilled for creation of a new municipality.
MP from the Serbian List in the Kosovo parliament, Nenad Rasic, agrees that the process of creation of a new municipality with Serb majority will be long and difficult process. He believes that the key for the success in this process lays in convincing the Albanian side that creation of another Serb-majority municipality will not jeopardize the work of other institutions, instead it would strengthen the rule of law.
