Vucic: Serbia will challenge the UEFA’s decision on Kosovo (Tanjug)

Serbia will take all legal measures to challenge the decision of European football's governing body UEFA to admit Kosovo as its member, leader of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) Aleksandar Vucic said.

What happened in Budapest, when UEFA accepted Kosovo as its member, is in contravention of the Statutes. We will take legal action to challenge the decision, he told reporters at the SNS headquarters on Wednesday evening.

“The decision is not in accordance with the UEFA Statutes which clearly say that only UN members could join the organisation,” he underlined.

On Tuesday, the football association of the self-proclaimed "Republic of Kosovo" became the 55th member of UEFA in a secret vote at the organisation's congress in Budapest.

The decision was taken with a simple majority vote as 28 out of the 54 member associations voted in favour, while 24 voted against.

Earlier in the day, an amendment to the UEFA Statutes that would allow non-UN member states to be admitted to the organisation had been rejected with a two-thirds majority.
