Is there a joint solution for the wall in North Mitrovica? (RTK2)
EEAS Spokesperson Maja Kocijančić told RTK2 that the announced opening of the bridge for the traffic, which was scheduled for January 20, will not take place.
''The EU is continuing the talks with both sides in order to find a mutually acceptable solution for all issues related to the works on the bridge in Mitrovica and in Kralja Petra I Street and it includes a new date for re-opening, '' said the Spokesperson for EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Maja Kocijančić.
Fate of the wall is uncertain, reports RTK2. Kosovo authorities claim it will be demolished in February; the Mayor of North Mitrovica claims that the wall was a result of the agreement made in Brussels and that there must not be any violent attempts.
Milica Andrić from the local NGO “Aktiv” thinks that it is certain that Priština would implement the decision on the demolition, although they have no arguments for it.
'' For the Ministry to overthrow the decision of the local authorities, it requires non-compliance of the construction/ building with the project documentation that was submitted, or that it is not in accordance with the general urban plan. General urban plan for the north of Kosovo does not exist and as for the project documentation, since the beginning of December the look and the design of this zone here have been known and the supporting wall was clearly visible. ''
If there would be any actions around the demolishment, Andrić does not expect the reaction of Serbs, but she fears of new obstacles.
''I believe that the Serbian community will not respond to this provocation, even if it comes to this, then we can expect to see another wall in the following days, which would be re-built, but this time, not only physically but also in the minds towards the Kosovo government, '' she said.
