Pristina's new attempt to adopt a demarcation agreement (RTS)
The Kosovo Assembly will discuss today the amended Bill on ratification of the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro. Despite the concessions from Podgorica that the demarcation agreement of 2015 can be corrected, the ruling majority does not have secured votes of 81 deputies, as needed for the adoption of the bill, Radio Television of Serbia reports today.
The proposed bill on demarcation is expected to be supported by the majority of deputies of ruling Albanian parties, then members of the opposition and members of minority non-Serb parties.
However, this is not enough for the demarcation to pass.
It was said that today's voting on demarcation, if it happens, will mean either the loss or defence of the Kosovo territory, because according to the previously signed demarcation agreement, Kosovo loses about 8,000 hectares of territory in comparison to Montenegro.
The votes of the Serbian Lists are missing. The Serbian List previously said that the issue did not interest them, and that their first demand was the implementation of the agreements reached in Brussels, primarily the agreement on the formation of the Community/Association of Serb municipalities (ZSO).
Long-awaited demarcation is one of the two remaining conditions for visa liberalization towards EU countries. Kosovo is late with European integrations and has become a "black hole of the region" because, besides demarcation, there is another requirement that needs to be fulfilled, i.e. visible and tangible fight against corruption and organized crime, RTS reports.
Because of the conditions set by the EU to Pristina, the citizens are the most at loss, and not the political leaders, concludes RTS correspondent from Kosovo.
