Popovic: Compromise with Kosovo, but within Serbian Constitution (RTS)
Although it was expected that the polemics between Serbian Foreign Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic and Minister of Innovations Nenad Popovic on the official policy towards Kosovo and Metohija would get an epilogue at the session of the government, it did not happen.
Commenting on the idea on delineation put forward by FM Dacic, Popovic said that “entire Kosovo is Serbia, not even a meter less.”
Speaking for RTS morning news edition Popovic noted he supports the compromise solution, but that solution should be in line with the Constitution of Serbia and UN SC Resolution 1244. He also told RTS any individual has the right to an opinion, but there is Serbian Constitution and preamble on Kosovo and Metohija, as integral part of Serbia, in it.
“I am strictly for respecting the Constitution. And we should act responsibly in relation to such an important issue as Kosovo is. We should also look what other states are doing in similar situation,” Popovic said.
“Everybody in the Government and the Parliament must respect the Constitution. It indicates that we are a serious state,” Popovic added.
Asked to comment on Dacic’s remarks, why he stays in the Government if he does not agree with the Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic policy on Kosovo, Popovic explained that he joined the government with a known stance, “Kosovo is Serbia, not even meter less.” He also noted Minister Dacic is not the one to decide on his participation in the government, since he did not make an agreement with him to join it either.
“President Vucic knows my stance, and I am not changing it (…). If I suit them in the government with such a stance I will be there, I not, then the President Vucic would decide on it (…).” Popovic concluded.
