US Ambassador shows Serbian pupils map without Kosovo? (BETA, B92)
Independent MP Miladin Sevarlic says US Ambassador Scott gave a lecture at a school in Apatin, showing the children a map of Serbia without Kosovo, B92 reports.
Kosovo is Serbia's southern province where ethnic Albanians 11 years ago unilaterally declared independence, which Serbia considers to be a violation of its Constitution and territorial integrity.
Sevarlic told reporters in the Serbian National Assembly on Friday that Ambassador Scott spoke at the Zarko Zrenjanin elementary school in Apatin, a town in northern Serbia, and that he learned about the event from the local media.
"For how long will Serbia allow itself to be disparaged by foreign ambassadors?" Sevarlic asked.
He publicly asked Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic, and Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Mladen Sarcevic whether the ambassador's actions represent "child abuse for political purposes."
"What would happen if the Serbian Ambassador in Washington gave a lecture of the kind in an elementary school there?" Sevarlic asked.
US Embassy in Serbia: Ambassador Scot had a map that is in official use in USA
The US Embassy in Serbia reacting to the news that Ambassador Kyle Scot showed a map of Serbia without Kosovo at primary school in Apatin said the map shown is in official use in the USA.
The Embassy recalled that the US stance on Kosovo is known, adding the lecture was dedicated to Arizona while unresolved Belgrade-Pristina relations were not mentioned at all. It was noted the visit to the school was focused on geography and culture of Arizona.
