Popovic-Ivkovic: Kosovo in Interpol would be serious precedent (Tanjug, Blic)
State Secretary in the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs Biljana Popovic-Ivkovic met in Baku with Azerbaijan Deputy Minister of Interior Oruj Zalov and presented to him Serbia’s arguments against reconsideration of Kosovo request to join Interpol, Tanjug news agency reported.
Zalov noted that Azerbaijan supports territorial integrity of Serbia and would continue to offer support to Serbia in international organizations.
Popovic-Ivkovic thanked Azerbaijan for the support given to Serbia at the last Interpol General Assembly session in Dubai and in preserving the respect of international law as well as preventing politicization of this professional police organization.
She also noted admission of Kosovo to Interpol would represent a serious precedent that would lead to politicization of this organization and open problems in all other countries that face separatist tendencies in their own territories.
She also recalled the admission of Kosovo would represent the harshest violation of the international law, starting from the UN SC Resolution 1244 but also Corell’s Resolution of Interpol itself that clearly stipulates only UN members or observer states can be members of Interpol.
