Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov attended the farewell reception of the Serbian ambassador in Moscow. Lavrov thanked Slavenko Terzic for the joint work and wished him much success in his further career.

Lavrov referred to the friendship of the two peoples, a common history - the history of the brotherhood of Slavs and Orthodox.

''We were in the most difficult times together, supporting one another, not for selfish ends, but because we were sure that people had to live in peace and harmony, and all these pages of our history confirm that,'' said Lavrov.

Lavrov reminded that Russia and Serbia will commemorate the great anniversaries in the near future, thus celebrating 75 years since the liberation of Belgrade from fascists in October, and in May next year the 75th anniversary of victory in World War II, reports RTS, quoting Sputnik.

"We are very grateful to President Aleksandar Vucic, who has confirmed that he will participate in this event, and I am sure that our unanimity and commitment to justice will help us to persevere in everything, and above all with regard to the Kosovo problem, which is plaguing the entire Balkans," the Russian minister pointed out.

According to him, the problem of Kosovo has become a major high-stakes geopolitical game, and the biggest problem is that the Western countries are guided by geopolitical goals rather than the interests of the people who have lived on the land for centuries.

"I am sure that justice will prevail and that we will always be together with the Serbian people in this difficult and principled struggle," he added.

RTS comments that Lavrov rarely goes to farewell receptions of foreign ambassadors and that the last time he visited the Serbian Embassy was in 2006.
