Parliament Approves New Govt in Kosovo (Associated Press)

Legislators approved a new coalition government in Kosovo on Tuesday, including the first prime minister who was not involved with the insurgents who fought for the territory's independence from Serbia. A general election was held in Kosovo June 8, but bickering among political rivals had prevented the formation of a new government until Tuesday's 65 percent vote of approval. Isa Mustafa, head of the pacifist Democratic League of Kosovo, was named prime minister.

Kosovo destroys thousands of seized firearms (AP)

Associated Press, December 02, 2014 FERIZAJ, Kosovo (AP) -- Kosovo authorities destroyed more than 2,000 small arms and rifles as part of an ongoing effort to increase security in the Balkan country. The firearms, mostly guns, sniper rifles and AK-47 rifles, were thrown into a furnace in central Kosovo on Tuesday and melted to make manhole covers. The weapons were seized in various police operations or used in crimes and stored in evidence rooms.

Kosovo frees 8-year-old boy from Syria captivity (AP)

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Wednesday, October 15, 2014, 8:37 PM SLATINA, Kosovo — An 8-year-old boy from Kosovo was reunited with his mother late on Wednesday after intelligence and security forces brought him back from Syria where he was taken by his jihadi father and kept for 5 months, officials said. Kosovo's Prime Minister Hashim Thaci said in a statement that Kosovo's Intelligence Agency "successfully located, found and returned" Erion Zena to Kosovo. He said the operation was "complicated and dangerous," but didn't give any further details.

Ukraine to pull out most troops out of Kosovo (AP)

PRISTINA, Kosovo -- NATO in Kosovo says Ukraine will pull out most of its troops from its peacekeeping mission in the Balkan country by the end of the month. The Ukrainian soldiers will be replaced by additional Hungarian peacekeepers, NATO said in statement Monday. Ukraine has some 160 soldiers serving in the NATO-led peacekeeping force known as KFOR and Hungary has over 200 troops.

Kosovo Police Arrest 40 Alleged Islamic Radicals (AP)

PRISTINA, Kosovo — Aug 11, 2014, 6:26 AM ET By NEBI QENA Associated Press Associated Press Kosovo police on Monday arrested at least 40 people in a major operation targeting Islamic radicals suspected of fighting alongside extremists in Iraq and Syria. Spokesman Baki Kelani said weapons, ammunition and explosives were seized as hundreds of police officers and special police units raided 60 locations across Kosovo, including makeshift mosques believed to have served as recruiting centres. The police operation is the largest ever against suspected Islamic radicals in Kosovo.
