Kosovo invited for the first time in Bosnia (Koha)

Representatives of Kosovo’s National Agency for the Protection of Personal Data, will participate in a meeting of counterpart agencies' authorities from Central and Eastern Europe. The meeting will be held in the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo. “It is worth mentioning that it is the first time that the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina is officially inviting Kosovo’s National Agency for Protection of Personal Data" is written in a press release issued by the Agency.

Çollaku: Kosovo to apply for EU candidate status in three years (Koha/RTK)

Kosovo's Minister of European Integration, Bekim Çollaku, said that despite internal challenges that the EU is facing, there was no shifting of interest and engagement towards the Western Balkans countries, including Kosovo. Çollaku spoke about Kosovo’s progress in the EU integration process, mentioning the signing of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) and the positive recommendation for visa liberalization. He said that a positive transformation is happening in Kosovo’s integration journey.

Veseli: Elections in 2018 (Koha)

Despite constant requests by opposition parties, Kosovo's Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and President Hashim Thaçi have denied the possibility of early parliamentary elections. Assembly President, Kadri Veseli, who was recently elected president of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), said today that there will be no early elections. “Elections will be held in 2018” Veseli was quoted saying.

Veseli: Kosovo has never been closer to the European Union (Koha)

Kosovo Assembly President, Kadri Veseli, posted on Facebook today on the occasion of Europe Day saying that Kosovo has never been closer to the European Union. Veseli wrote: “Today is Europe Day which marks the historic declaration by Robert Schuman 66 years ago when he presented the visionary idea of creating inter-state institutions between countries that just years earlier had waged the worst war against one another.

Thaci: Europe, Kosovo’s next destination (Koha)

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, today on the occasion of 9 May – Europe Day, said that Europe is Kosovo’s next destination. He also added that today more than ever, the people of Kosovo must remember the values on which the European Union was built and to reiterate the commitment to embrace those values and principles. “Commitment to peace and dialogue, economic cooperation, free trade and free movement of people, justice and rule of law for a multi-cultural society where no one is discriminated and everyone is equal.

AAK: People of Kosovo deserve to be treated equally to other Europeans (Koha)

The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) issued a statement on Europe Day saying the people of Kosovo deserve to be equal to other European people and that they should not be penalized because of “irresponsible governments”. On this day, said the AAK, “we have no way not to be dissatisfied with development trends as a precondition for Kosovo’s full membership in EU”. AAK stressed that the fight against corruption and organised crime remain two main challenges for Kosovo institutions.

Twenty percent of Kosovars do not feel safe in Kosovo (Koha)

Kosovo Centre for Security Studies today published the results of a special edition of the Kosovo Security Barometer on trends of perceptions of public safety in Kosovo 2012-215. During this period, an average of 40 percent of citizens feel safe in Kosovo, while 20 percent of them feel unsafe in Kosovo, the report says. In the past four years there has been a limited positive trend on general perceptions of public safety. However, the political crisis of the past years has stalled this positive trend.

Mogherini to visit Pristina on Thursday (media)

The Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, issued a press release today saying that Federica Mogherini, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, will visit Pristina on Thursday. Mogherini is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Mustafa. Mogherini and Mustafa are expected to give a joint conference for the media.

UNDP and EU Office launch cultural protection project in Kosovo (media)

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kosovo and the EU Office in Kosovo on Wednesday have launched a project dedicated to cultural protection in five municipalities in Kosovo. The European Union has allocated over 1.5 million euros for this project. Alessandra Rocasalvo, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative acknowledged generosity of the EU and said, "This project is a joint effort of EU, Eulex, religious leaders and municipalities to preserve Kosovo heritage."
