Around 150 people gathered today outside the Kosovo government building to protest against the arrest of the opposition MP Donika Kadaj-Bujupi who was arrested for allegedly setting off tear gas in the Kosovo Assembly. Reports say protesters threw teargas, stones and paint at police, while the situation remained tense. Protesters also broke several windows of the government building. The police tried to disperse protesters with teargas to prevent the crowds from approaching the government building.

Vetevendosje Movement MP, Albin Kurti, who is currently wanted by the Kosovo Polcie after an arrest warrant was issued for him this morning, appeared at the opposition’s protest today and gave a statement to the media. "Protests like this will continue. We will not accept any compromise,” Kurti said.  The news site reported that at the time Kurti arrived at the protest, the clashes between the police and protesters begun.

The Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) through a press release today demanded the immediate release of the opposition MP Donika Kadaj-Bujupi. “The arrest of the opposition MP, Donika Kadaj-Bujupi, and searching the houses of two other  opposition MPs - Albin Kurti and Albulena Haxhiu- by the Kosovo police, show clearly that the ruling-coalition is using different means to tense the situation in Kosovo,” read the press release.

Hundreds of protesters gathered today outside the Assembly building in support of the opposition MPs who were trying to block the Assembly session this morning. According to media reports, protesters threw teargas, rocks, bottles and petrol bombs at the police. Kosovo Police spokesperson, Baki Kelani, told KTV that the protesters attacked the police with Molotov cocktails. According to Kelani, six police officers were injures and needed medical help. “One of the police officers had severe head injuries.

Kosovo Prime Minister Isa Mustafa, today during the Assembly session, requested by the legal authorities to take measures against the opposition MPs for, as he said, their violent actions at the Assembly. “The opposition’s actions at the Assembly are intolerable. Those who attack, those who throw chemical stuff which endangers the health of the MPs and diplomatic representatives, will answer for their actions. I call on the legal authorities to take action. We will not allow that 30 MPs to obstruct the work of the majority,” Mustafa said.

The United States Ambassador to Kosovo, Greg Delawie, during a press statement today called on the opposition parties to stop the violence. "The opposition should understand that the representatives of the people are elected in ballot boxes and not with weapons,” Delawie said. He praised the ruling-coalition MPs “who are serving the people of Kosovo despite the teargas.” “I am proud to stand with Kosovo’s democratically-elected assembly members as they face tear gas to serve the people of Kosovo,” Delawie said.

Vetevendosje Movement MP Albin Kurti MP of Vetevendosje, Albin Kurti, said today that he pointed the pepper spray at the Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and the government because they created the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities. “The police just happened to be in the wrong place,” Kurti said.

The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) said in a press release that the least that Kosovo Prime Minister Isa Mustafa had to do today ahead of the Assembly session was to dismiss the Kosovo Government commission on border demarcation with Montenegro and launch investigations into its actions.

Vetevendosje Movement parliamentary group chief, Glauk Konjufca, said today that the opposition is determined to block any session of the Assembly. "The united opposition is determined to block any session of the Assembly. The Assembly can hold the session only after the government withdraws from the Brussels agreements. So far the government has not given any signs that it is ready to withdraw from these agreements, so, our actions will be the same.

Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Isa Mustafa, in an interview with the Turkish news agency Anadolu Agency, said that Serbia's aggressive campaign against Kosovo's membership in international organizations, in which Kosovo was compared with ISIS, will undoubtedly adversely affect the continuation of the EU-brokered dialogue. “Serbia's aggressive campaign against Kosovo in UNESCO is an obstacle to continuation of the dialogue.
