Jahjaga commends people of Kosovo on democratic elections (Kosova Sot)

Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga issued a statement saying that yesterday's elections were peaceful, with a satisfactory voter turnout, including from the northern part of Kosovo. Jahjaga congratulated the people of Kosovo for their participation in the elections and their contribution to the democratic process. "Kosovo and its people passed the test with dignity and maturity. In the next couple of days, it is important to show the same commitment and contribute to the conclusion of this democratic process that is crucial for our country's future," she said.

APA: Hashim Thaci to be prime minister again (Kosova Sot)

The Austrian News Agency (APA) has quoted reports of the daily paper Tiroler Tageszeitung which said that the outgoing prime minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, has a good chance to win Sunday’s elections. “Compared to the charismatic Thaci, Isa Mustafa from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) cannot hope to become prime minister of Kosovo,” wrote the paper. It added that the main race will be between the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and LDK but that Mustafa is behind in the polls.

ECAP rejects 9,000 complaints (Kosova Sot)

The Election Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP) is reported to have reviewed all complaints, and out of 9,172, only 206 were approved. The rest have been rejected as being groundless. The head of ECAP, Shukri Sylejmani, said the panel reviewed all cases individually and professionally and managed to decide on them before the legal deadline. “Most of the complaints were incomplete and lacked supporting documents and evidence”, said Sylejmani. The complaints were related to voting outside of Kosovo.

Germany has no disagreements with Kosovo (Kosova Sot)

German MP and Member of the Bundestag Commission for South-East Europe Peter Beyer told Deutsche Welle that there is no disagreement between the German Government and the current Kosovo leadership. “In the parliamentary groups that are part of the ruling coalition there is no difference in positions towards Kosovo. On the contrary, it was stressed that progress was achieved in Kosovo”, said Beyer.

Guarantee lawfulness in Kosovo! (Kosova Sot)

The paper’s front-page editorial highlights the statement by US Ambassador to Kosovo, Tracey Ann Jacobson, who said that laws are not being implemented properly and called on voters to support politicians that can guarantee lawfulness. The editorial further notes that Kosovo has lost a lot of time since 2000, by failing to guarantee legal standards, full respect for human rights and justice.
