Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga said yesterday that domestic violence in Kosovo still remains a frequently occurring issue. “Also, in the reports issued by international organisations on progress in Kosovo, domestic violence is still classified as a deficiency which continues to challenge democracy and human rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the country and by the laws in force. Despite the many challenges and priorities, institutions of the Republic of Kosovo have shown exceptional attention to this phenomenon.

Nobody has been convicted for sexual violence during war time (Kosovapress)
The National Council for the Survivors of Sexual Violence during the war today held its closing meeting and presented the work of the Council on victims of sexual violence during the war. At the meeting chaired by President Atifete Jahjaga it was discussed, among other things, the application of the legal rights of these victims and their access to justice. Jahjaga said that Kosovo institutions have demonstrated commitment to fight the stigmatization of these victims.
Kosovo and the US sign extradition treaty (Zeri)
Kosovo and the United States of America today signed an extradition treaty. The agreement was signed by the outgoing President of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga and the United States Ambassador to Kosovo, Greg Delawie. Jahjaga said "this agreement will ensure that criminals who pose a threat to our countries will be brought to justice," while Delawie said this agreement enhances the credibility of Kosovo. “Judges and prosecutors will be trained for efficiency in pursuing criminals. Our Government will spend 12 million dollars on this issue,” Delawie said.

President of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga today addressed the “Sexual Violence in Conflict and beyond” Forum, organised by the Foundation for the Wellbeing of the Society of the President of Malta, Ms. Marie Louise Coleiro Preca. This Forum was organised on the occasion of President Jahjaga’s state visit to the Republic of Malta. During her remarks, Jahjaga said sexual violence was used as a tool of war in Kosovo against thousands of women and men with the purpose to incite fear and oppression upon innocent citizens.
