Regional conference on child protection held in Pristina (Telegrafi)

Kosovo’s Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Rita Hajzeraj-Beqaj, participated in the regional conference on "Sharing interdisciplinary practices on child protection". Hajzeraj-Beqaj emphasized the importance of the multidisciplinary access in case management in order to coordinate and exchange the best practices in child protection. She said that the Ministry will support every initiative that has to do with improving the situation of children who are considered marginalized.

Selimi: Arabs voted in favor of Kosovo’s membership of UNESCO (Telegrafi)

Kosovo’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Petrit Selimi, said today that Arab countries voted in favor of Kosovo’s membership of the UNESCO. Selimi said he needs to make it clear to the public that the Arab word “nam” means “yes” and that someone could have misinterpreted as “no”. “Saudi Arabia and countries of the Arabian Peninsula have supported Kosovo during the vote,” he added.

Randy Berry, special envoy for LGBTI rights visits Kosovo (Telegrafi)

Randy W. Berry, the U.S. State Department's first-ever Special Envoy for the Human Rights of LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex)Persons is visiting Kosovo and met today with the President of the Kosovo Assembly, Kadri Veseli. Berry and Veseli during the meeting discussed the human rights of the LGBTI in Kosovo. "Berry stressed that human rights, as universal must be respected equally for all members of society, irrespective of their differences in ethnicity and identity," read a press release issued by Veseli’s Office.

Ternava calls on Islamic countries to support Kosovo’s UNESCO bid (Telegrafi)

Naim Ternava, leader of the Islamic Community of Kosovo, sent a letter to the highest religious authority in Egypt, Ahmed Muhammad Ahmed el-Tayeb, calling on him to use his authority and convince the Egyptian government to support Kosovo’s bid to join the UNESCO. “Kosovo is ready and has all capacities to assume responsibilities in international forums and institutions. For us, membership of the UNESCO is very important, because we would get more experience and receive support in treating, safeguarding and promoting our heritage that best displays the civilization values of our peoples.

Vetevendosje: Persons who pelted eggs at Albanian PM are not our activists! (Telegrafi)

The Vetevendosje Movement issued a press release denying media reports that some of its activists pelted eggs at Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama in Tirana today. “Reports claiming that Vetevendosje activists pelted eggs at Edi Rama are entirely false. No Vetevendosje activist took part in this action. None of the persons that carried this out are activists of the Vetevendosje Movement. We will follow every legal procedure to sue the news site Gazeta Express for slander.

Lunacek believes Assembly needs to ratify agreements with Serbia (Telegrafi)

European Parliament vice president and rapporteur for Kosovo, Ulrike Lunacek, told RTV Dukagjini that the two agreements disputed by the opposition, that on the Association/Community of Serb majority municipalities and border demarcation with Montenegro, should be put for ratification at the Assembly of Kosovo. She said opposition actions such as releasing teargas are unacceptable. “ Lunacek said she was surprised by the statement of Kosovo Prime Minister Isa Mustafa that the agreements would not be ratified by the Assembly only discussed.

 

Mustafa: Opposition actions are not supported by citizens (Telegrafi)

Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Isa Mustafa, said today that the violent and non-democratic  actions of the opposition parties are not supported by the citizens of Kosovo. Speaking about the difficult and sensitive decisions that the government of Kosovo faced this year, such as the establishment of the special court, recent agreements with Serbia and border demarcation with Montenegro, Mustafa said that all these decisions will strengthen the justice system in Kosovo and will promote peace and stability in the region.

Minister Bajrami revokes decision on Rector Zejnullahu’s dismissal (Telegrafi)

Kosovo Ministry of Education, Science and Technology through a press statement announced today that Minister Arsim Bajrami revoked the decision of the University of Pristina Steering Committee to dismiss Rector Ramadan Zejnullahu. According to the statement, Bajrami took this decision because the Steering Committee violated the Rules of Procedure when dismissed the Rector Zejnullahu. Today a protest was organized by the civil society in Pristina against the decision for Rector Zejnullahu’s dismissal.

Daut Haradinaj: Opposition with a joint list would win the majority in elections (Telegrafi)

The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) MP, Daut Haradinaj, in an interview with TV Dukagjini, said that he is certain that the opposition would win the majority of votes if they decide to go into elections with a join list.  "Opposition leaders are united and they proved that  the opposition is united and will continue so in the future. A joint list would make it impossible for the LDK and PDK to have the majority,” Haradinaj said.
