Blomeyer: Perhaps pine trees are more beautiful than the ugly barricade (kosovapress) (

The German Ambassador in Pristina, Peter Blomeyer, stated that “perhaps it could be said that flowers and pine trees are more beautiful than the ugly barricade.”

“Anyhow, there was lack of communication…There should be discussions for a joint solution. Even though we have some pines over the bridge, they will not turn the world upside down. We have to find a solution to use the bridge,” said Blomeyer in an interview for RTK.

However, he agreed that Sunday’s protest which culminated with violence, gave reason for concern. He called for restraint, since the issue of the bridge should be clarified between the two parties.

“Any kind of ultimatum, or violent activity, would be completely wrong. I also think that the police, EULEX or KFOR should not be put in a difficult position that would be resolved by violence. Therefore, I call for maturity,” said Blomeyer.

Even though the situation escalated and dialogue could be put in question, the German Ambassador said there is no other alternative but dialogue.  “We need the dialogue. We need exchange and if there are efforts to develop the city, then this is an interest of the population both in the south and north. Together, we can always reach something, however, by taking positions against each other, both sides loose,” said Blomeyer.
