Following the statement of the Kosovo Minister of Diaspora, Valon Murati, that “the privileged situation of non-Albanian communities, in particular that of the Serb community, is one of the main reasons behind the migration of Kosovo Albanians,” civil society organizations of the Serb and other non-Albanian communities have called on the Kosovo government to apologize for Murati’s statement and immediately dismiss him. Request for Murati’s dismissal was endorsed by 120 organisations who say that his statement shows the ‘cynicism’ and ‘hypocrisy’ of the Pristina leadership in relation to the commitment for building a multiethnic society. “Such statements lead to mobilization of people along ethnic lines and this is primarily directed against the Serb community and directly threatens the physical safety of non-Albanian citizens and their assets,” the organisations said.
