Serbia's latest provocation, tries to appropriate Sharr national park (media)

Several news sites report on what they call “latest provocation by Serbia vis-a-vis Kosovo, namely its attempt to appropriate the Sharr national park”. After claiming that it owns the Gazivoda Lake in the northern part of Kosovo, Serbia is now also claiming ownership over the Sharr national park, with around 23,000 hectares. The Serbian Minister for Agriculture and Environment, Snezana Bogosavljevic, and the head of the Serbian Government’s Office for Kosovo, Marko Djuric, had a meeting on Tuesday with the managers of the public company “Sharr national park”. Bogosavljevic and Djuric said they would intensify meetings and do their best to secure the unimpeded activity of the national park, “which is a protected and exceptionally important property of Serbia”. The news sites note that the Sharr national park is located in the municipalities of Prizren, Shterpce/Strpce, Suhareka/Suva Reka and Kacanik. The park has 23,000 hectares of land, 10,000 of which are state owned and around 12,500 are privately owned or other forms of ownership.
