Preteni: There is no political will to fight corruption in Kosovo (Koha)

The head of the Kosovo Anti-Corruption Agency, Hasan Preteni said today that corruption is one of the major concerns in Kosovo. According to Preteni, in the Anti-Corruption Agency report to be published in March, Kosovo scores 3.3 out of 10 in fighting corruption, same as the Dominican Republic and Ethiopia, and is one of the countries where corruption is not being efficiently tackled. Preteni added that the solution to this is to raise awareness through seminars and workshops, but stressed that Kosovo lacks accountability and transparency in this regard.  He said that officials who are under investigation should be suspended until the completion of the procedures, and stressed that petty corruption is not the main problem, but public procurement is.  Furthermore, Preteni noted that since 2014, no senior official contacted the Agency to see if someone from the sector they lead is being investigated for corruption or not. "There is no political will to fight corruption in Kosovo," he added.
