Picula: Corruption and press freedom, two main problems in Kosovo (Indeksonline)
Tonino Picula, chairman of the European Parliamentary Committee for SAA with Kosovo, and other members of the committee met Kosovo's President, Hashim Thaci. Picula reiterated EU's strong support to Kosovo’s European agenda. “We are here today and tomorrow to ask questions about the current situation in Kosovo. [...] Our visit kick-starts the first phase of the Stabilization and Association Agreement signed on 10 April, and together with MPs of Kosovo's Assembly, we will outline the advantages and disadvantages that should be identified for its implementation,” said Picula. “You know that the EU is a strong supporter of Kosovo’s European perspective, therefore we should discuss how to deal with Kosovo's justice system, as the level of corruption is very high and also how to deal with the freedom of press which remains un-monitored. Also, we discussed the agreement on border-demarcation with Montenegro, which remains one of the conditions for visa liberalization for Kosovo,” Picula added after the meeting with President Thaci.
