According to the budget proposal regarding the work of UNMIK in Kosovo, 3.5 million dollars less will be allocated this year. USA and UK are attempting to reduce the staff of the mission.

According to sources cited by the Belgrade newspaper, Večernje Novosti, Koha.net writes that the purpose is to abolish 20 jobs and empower the mission in the areas of human rights, support to communities and strengthen the role of UNMIK in the north of Kosovo.

According to the budget-proposal in question, 36.5 million dollars have been foreseen for UNMIK’s operations as of 1 July 2016, up to 30 June 2017. The amount of money in the deposit, as well the number of employees will be determined next month at the UN.

Last year’s budget review for UNMIK provided for 388 staffers, of whom 372 civilians and 16 staff in uniforms, respectively eight soldiers and eight policemen. The Office for Kosovo of the Government of Serbia claims that UNMIK is their main partner.
