The dangerous negligence (Koha Ditore)
The paper’s publisher Flaka Surroi writes today that the blockade of the Assembly that is going on for several weeks now, has come to the point of absurdity for which the people of Kosovo will pay the price. “The scenes of throwing eggs and teargas became international news. The escalation of the situation to throwing teargas in the Assembly is sinking us in a very deep crisis,” Surroi writes. “Now we know that we have two completely different views: a ruling coalition that with arrogance excludes the opposition from any consultation or exchange of ideas for two harmful actions that have been made, and on the other hand, the opposition is now united, saying that they will block the Association of Serb-majority municipalities and border demarcation with Montenegro, by blocking the Assembly until the government annuls these agreements.” According to Surroi, while it is practically impossible to annul the agreement on the Association, there is the possibility of blocking the border demarcation with Montenegro since this one needs to be ratified by law.
The author argues that while the government’s stance is a violation of democracy, and its excuses in regards to the “historic” agreements are offensive to the people, the only thing that they are causing is violence, specifically violation of democracy.
According to Surroi, the President of the Assembly, Kadri Veseli, is finally winning the game of building the image of a democratic parliamentarian in the eyes of the international community, by refusing to call security in the Assembly hall. “The result of all this is that this government, in particular Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and Deputy Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, are being portrayed as the victims of a violent opposition, which according to them, all the opposition wants is the fall of a democratically elected government.” On the other hand, Surroi writes, the focus of attention in the Assembly, gives a wonderful maneuvering space to crime and imposing political interests.
“These two opposing views will lead us deeper into the abyss. Get together, sit down and talk, and find the solution to this issue - the victims of the government’s arrogance and the stubbornness of the opposition is, in the end, the people of Kosovo.”
