Thaci cannot become President, a hero citizen will (Koha Ditore)
The paper has run an opinion piece by Andrea Lorenzo Capussela who argues that the verdict of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo to remove Behgjet Pacolli from Presidency a few years ago, makes it impossible for the PDK leader Hashim Thaci to be elected President, because it requires the presence of all MPs at the session. “"Consequently, if one MP is absent, the vote cannot take place. And the MPs cannot be forced into going to the Assembly. Therefore, the rule in Kosovo is that no president can be elected if MPs are absent, except those who have been granted permission for their absence," Capussela writes. According to the author, the only promising candidates are citizens who are admired by all in Kosovo. "It is clear that the PDK-LDK-Serbian List coalition has two, and only two options. They can choose between losing the presidency or losing the only instrument with which the political elite generally solve the most difficult problems; the Constitutional Court. The only way to avoid losing the presidency is to dispute the Constitutional Court's judgment on Pacolli’s case. But if the coalition says the Court is wrong, then the Court may make further mistakes in the future. So my hope is that the ruling-coalition will give up the Presidency and accept that a hero citizen must become President,” Capussela concludes.
