Thaci’s election in Belgrade’s hands (Kosova Sot)
The paper writes that the gap between political parties in Kosovo is getting bigger not only because of the agreements with Serbia and Montenegro but also the election of the President of Kosovo. The opposition parties – Vetevendosje, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) – are highly unlikely to help in securing an Assembly quorum that would enable Foreign Minister Hashim Thaci to be elected President and if the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) MPs don’t make any surprise moves, the decision of whether Thaci will become the next president of Kosovo will rest solely on the Serbian List MPs. All the options that the ruling parties are considering to enable Thaci’s election could be hampered if Serbian leaders, Ivica Dacic and Aleksandar Vucic, don’t give their blessing to the Serbian List MPs whose votes will be of crucial importance, writes the paper. However, Thaci could very well receive the pro-vote considering the concessions he has made to the Serbian side with regards to the agreement on establishing the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities. “Brussels’ dangerous compromises are linked to the achievement of Hashim Thaci, Isa Mustafa and Kadri Veseli’s personal interests,” notes the paper.
