EU and US need new game plan in Kosovo (Kosovapress)

In an opinion piece originally published by EUobserver, journalist Ekrem Krasniqi warns that Kosovo is facing the most serious political situation since 1999 and that it is finally time for the EU and the US to broker a dialogue between the ruling and opposition parties “for the sake of stability.” Krasniqi says that what began as opposition to the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities has now transformed into “popular anger over corruption and economic stagnation.” The people of Kosovo are fed up living with corruption, organised crime, unemployment, but at the same time, in Krasniqi’s view, the EU and the US continue to communicate only with the ruling parties – the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) – knowing that these parties are responsible for the “criminality” in Kosovo. The EU and the US need to invest in new leaders in Kosovo as the situation here merits immediate response, Krasniqi suggests.
